Project - Three Little Pigs

On a beautiful September day we 'Recycled' a large box and created a set for the story of the Three Little Pigs.
It was a lot of hard work and we even had to take water breaks but soon we had houses of straw, sticks and bricks and we even had a tree to represent the forest. Our artist had the idea to make it an apple tree because it is fall! While we were painting Mrs. Dyck told the story and sang a song and everyone joined in.

The next Kindergarten day we coloured and cut and created headbands to represent the characters of the story. Then we practiced preforming the story as a play. We did such a great job that we did a practice performance for the Grade 12 class.

Later Mrs. Dyck read a version of the Three Little Pigs where the wolf eats the first two pigs. We like it better when the three little pigs live happily ever after in the sturdy house of bricks!

Stay tuned for more in our 'Three Little Pigs Project'

Getting to Know Pre-K

This head band started out as a cutting and pasting picture.
It slowly evolved into this great headpiece!

Learning fine motor skills, sorting and organizing,
sharing ideas and cooperative skills are all practiced
while playing house.

When and activity is at an appropriate level and
the student is interested their working stamina can
be quite impressive.

I loved how this activity developed into an important
lesson. We explored how and which shapes roll.

More students joined the experiment and we went on to decide
that circles could roll and triangles can slide.

This student has wonderful special relations.
She worked independently for quite a while
creating this tile board.

Playing at building develops fine motor skills
and just like playing house it requires
cooperation and conversation.

More opportunities to imagine, communicate,
use fine motor skills at the work bench
and the store

The train set is usually occupied by more students.
They work together to build, then change the tracks,
all the while talking and imagining and problem solving.

With two teachers in our class we are able to provide a variety
of learning activities for the students.
While the room was otherwise humming with activity
these students enjoyed listening to some stories.

I loved this moment! The students are using social skills in this shopping game as well as using emerging literacy and numeracy skills.

First we made clapping patterns. I clapped and they joined in or continued the clapping pattern. Then we made patterns with ourselves, recognizing that we can choose the attribute for the pattern. For example; boy, girl, boy, girl or short pants, long pants, short pants, long pants. Last students are asked to decide if the pieces made a pattern or not and then created patterns with the penguins.

Welcome Parents

Welcome to Kindergarten!

1. Please send a photograph or an email version of your family as soon as possible

2. We had a great first day. We played with the letter Tt,
T - Start at the top and drag it down to the floor, then drag it all the way across the top
t - Start at the top  and drag it down to the floor, then across the middle.

We also printed the number one. A straight line down is lots of fun, that's the way to make a 1!

The sooner they start letters and numbers at the top the better.

3. A small water bottle would be a great help in the classroom. It could travel back and forth in the backpack.

4. You received a lot of mail today. Please go through it and return the school forms on Thursday.
-The Chirp magazine is yours to keep but answer yes or no on the order form so that we can get the free stuff for the classroom.
-Book orders are optional, I often used them to find what my children liked then went to the public library and borrowed them.
If you do order the class earns free books so that is great too.
NOTE: I CANNOT HANDLE CASH. (Division Rule) You can send a check made out to Scholastics Canada (add up all the books from all forms) or pay on line.

3. I will ask you to download the free REMIND APP.To sign up for Kindergarten notifications, then click the link below.
