February in Kindergarten

We needed a new class picture!
4 boys + 4 girls = 8 Kindergarten Students
We find number fun everywhere!

Literacy is LETTERS AND NUMBERS!
First we learn letters and sounds. We read by ourselves and with our friends.

Then we read pictures and find letters and words we know. This is us enjoying the library books and the new furniture in the library.

Here we used some Valentine Candies to make picture graphs and answer questions about the candies.

Center Time is always a favorite part of the day. They practice literacy with markers, and Starfall.

They develop friendships, imagination and verbal skills as they play.
Building with blocks of some sort happens every day! I think we have a bunch of Engineers in the making.

Valentine's Day was special. We did the usual Valentine exchange and stories but we also had a special guest instructor and snack.

The students liked a painting I had in the classroom and I told them how I had gone to a paint night and followed the instructors directions and was able to create the beautiful painting.

They asked if we could do the same thing so Monique Wrolson came in and helped us create these lovely paintings. Gage's mom popped in and gave us all a yummy Valentine cupcake.

We learned lots of painting techniques.
- A dish of different paint colours is a palette.
- Dip the tip of the brush in water then dab on a rag before loading the brush with paint.
- Clean the brush before switching colours.
- Mix paint in a separate space on the palette if you want a unique colour.
- When layering colours you must be patient so they dry.
- You can mark spaces on the canvas with a pencil to help make shapes the right size.
- Broken lines were used around the hearts.

We got to use the brush strokes we had practiced as well as the tricky heart shape.

These were shared on seesaw and then I decided that I prefer this Blog for general pictures, activities and explanations. You may see us out...
